Borrowing

Find out how to borrow from the JIBC Library.

Eligible Borrowers

You can borrow from the Library if you belong to one of the following groups in B.C.:

  • Students (including online and distance) registered in JIBC Certificate, Diploma or Degree Programs
  • JIBC Faculty and Staff
  • B.C. Corrections Branch Personnel
  • B.C. Sheriff Personnel
  • Family Justice Counselors
  • Fire Fighters (Career, Volunteer, Industrial)
  • MCFD Youth Justice Personnel
  • Paramedics
  • Police Officers (Regular & Auxiliary)

Anyone attending short-term courses at JIBC, and, members of the general public, are welcome to use the Library services on campus. In addition, JIBC Library books may be borrowed through the interlibrary loan services at public, university or college libraries. 

BC Post Secondary Libraries

JIBC students, staff, and faculty may borrow directly from other BC Post Secondary Libraries.  Current Student ID or JIBC identification must be presented in-person.  Loan periods and number of items borrowed will differ depending upon the lending library.

Students, staff and faculty from member libraries may borrow from JIBC Library by presenting their home institution ID (with expiry date), the CPSLD Reciprocal Borrowing Card, or by signing onto their institution's site and showing proof of registration.

  • CPSLD member library users are allowed to borrow up to 3 books; media items are not available for loan in this program. 
  • All CPSLD member library users must follow the policies and regulations of JIBC Library. 

Loan Periods

Loan periods and renewals for items at the JIBC Library.
Item Loan Period Renewals
Books 4 weeks 1 renewal (if no holds on item).
Short Stories (in Reserve collection) 1 day 1 renewal (if no holds on item).
Audio CDs 4 weeks 1 renewal (if no holds on item).
DVDs 4 weeks (unless DVD is reserved for a certain date). 1 renewal (if no holds on item).

Mailing Service

If you cannot come to the New Westminster campus AND you are eligible to borrow from the JIBC Library, we willMAIL books and DVDs to you FREE-OF-CHARGE.

In addition to the material you request, you will receive a PREPAID Canada Post mailing label, to return the books/DVDs to us.

Overdues

A notice is sent to your email when you have overdue items. If you do not see this email check your spam or junk folder.

FIRST Overdue Notice:
Sent the first Wednesday after 7 days overdue

FINAL Notice:
Sent the first Wednesday after 30 days overdue

INVOICE Notice:
​Sent the first Wednesday after 45 days overdue

At this time if the item(s) is not returned, or the invoice is not paid:

  • Transcripts will be held
  • Students will be barred from registering from future courses
  • Library borrowing privileges will cease
