Equipment: What do we lend?

Learn about all the equipment that the JIBC Library has to offer

Who can borrow?

JIBC Library lends equipment to active students (enrolled in a program) on a first-come, first-serve basis. Students MUST be registered in a program.

Laptops:

ALWAYS SAVE TO USB - if the laptop should reboot or shutdown, all information stored on the desktop will be lost!

  • Laptops come with:
    • MS Office
    • wireless access
    • case containing a mouse and a power adapter/cable
  • Loan period:
    • One calendar day: the laptop MUST be returned to the Library by closing the following day.
    • We do not renew equipment.
    • Overdue fines are $10.00 per day.
  • Returning laptops:
    • MUST be returned to the JIBC Library (located at the Main Campus).
    • Once returned we will double-check that all files have been removed and wipe down the device.
    • Laptops are stored in the Library in a secured cart connected to the network.
      • This ensures that laptops are updated with the latest software and fixes.
  • Damaged or lost:
    • You are responsible for any damage incurred while the laptop is checked out to you.
    • The damage will be evaluated at the time of return to determine costs.
    • Do not leave the computer unattended!
      • Lost or stolen laptops and accessories are your responsibility.
      • Unresolved laptop issues will result in the suspension of the following: library borrowing privileges, registration for future JIBC courses, and issuing of transcripts.

iPads:
  • iPads come with:
    • Power adapter and cable
    • Apps including QuickOffice Pro
       
  • Loan period:
    • One calendar day: the iPad MUST be returned to the Library by closing the following day.
    • We do not renew equipment.
    • Overdue fines are $10.00 per day.
       
  • Saving work to iPad/downloading apps:
    • Save work only on a temporary basis.
    • Borrowers can download apps using their OWN iTunes account.
    • Delete all personal information you may have added to the device - do not save your passwords to the device
       
  • Returning iPads:
    • MUST be returned to the JIBC Library (located at the Main Campus).
    • Once returned we will double-check that all files have been removed and wipe down the device.
       
  • Damaged or lost:
    • You are responsible for any damage incurred while the iPad is checked out to you.
    • The damage will be evaluated at the time of return to determine costs.
    • Do not leave the computer unattended!

Other:
  • JIBC Library also lends the following to students:
    • headphones
    • mouse
    • USB transfer files, etc. Please ensure the data is deleted from the USB before returning it to Library staff
    • variety of cables 

Printing from laptops and iPads:
  • JIBC does not support printing from devices connected to wireless.
  • Save your work to a USB then use a Library computer to print.
  • Alternatively, email the document to yourself.

Need Assistance:

  • Contact Library 604-528-5599 or library@jibc.ca:
    • to report any hardware problems.
    • help using databases or other library resources.
JIBC Library lends equipment to current instructors and staff for JIBC educational purposes only.

Laptops:

ALWAYS SAVE TO USB - if the laptop should reboot or shutdown, all information stored on the desktop will be lost!

JIBC Library lends laptops to active instructors, faculty and staff for JIBC educational purposes.

  • Laptops may be booked in advance and borrowed for up to one month.
    • Use the Equipment Booking form (see right side-bar)​.
    • Can be renewed via telephone or email.
  • Laptops are checked out  to the borrower in a case containing a mouse and power adapter/cable.
  • If the borrower wants to use their own JIBC Username and Password, unless they are directly connected to the JI’s network (not via wireless), they will not be able to save material to their own folders.
  • The only way they can save material on these laptops is on a USB.
  •  All laptops have MS Office and wireless access.
  • ​Once the laptop is returned we will double-check that all files have been removed and wipe down the device.
  • Laptops are stored in the Library in a secured cart connected to the network.
    • This ensures that laptops are updated with the latest software and fixes.

DVD players:

As classrooms are no longer equipped with DVD players and laptops no longer have DVD players installed if you wish to show a DVD in class:

  • Book the DVD player using the Equipment Booking form (see right side-bar).

iPads:
  • iPads are available for faculty to borrow for classroom instructional use only.
    • Instructors may book up to 25 iPads in advance.
    • Use the Equipment Booking form found on the Intranet (see right side-bar).
  • Once the iPad is returned we will double-check that all files have been removed and wipe down the device.

Conference Phones, Projectors, Speakers and USB Cameras
  • The items should be booked in advance using the Equipment Booking form (see right side-bar).
  • These items are to be picked up and dropped off in the Library.
  • If you need the item before the Library opens please have it picked up the evening before the event.
  • Call 5900 if you need technical assistance.
    • If you need a technician to assist you with the setup, please call the Service Desk, this can be arranged in advance.

Other:

  • JIBC Library also lends the following items:
    • Extension cordspower barslaser pointersspeakerphone, headphones and various adaptor cables.
    • See subsequent tabs for more information on these devices.

After hours returns:

If equipment needs to be returned after the Library closes, please return to a uniformed security guard.

JIBC Library lends equipment to field personnel, when they are onsite at JIBC taking a course(s).

Field personnel are described as active members of the following:

  • B.C. Corrections Branch Personnel
  • B.C. Sheriff Personnel
  • Family Justice Counselors
  • Fire Fighters (Career, Volunteer, Industrial)
  • MCFD Youth Justice Personnel
  • Paramedics
  • Police Officers (Regular & Auxiliary)

Laptops:

ALWAYS SAVE TO USB - if the laptop should reboot or shutdown, all information stored on the desktop will be lost!

  • JIBC Library lends laptops to field personnel when they are onsite taking a course(s).
  • The laptop MUST be returned to the Library by the end of their course.
    • If the course runs over multiple days it is recommended that field personnel return it to the Library daily so that it can be locked in a secured location.
    • Please do not leave it in your trunk as you are responsible for the cost of replacement.
  •  All laptops have MS Office and wireless access.
  • Laptops are checked out in a case containing a mouse and power adapter/cable.
  • Laptops are stored in the Library in a secured cart connected to the network.
    • This ensures that laptops are updated with the latest software and fixes.
  • One the laptop is returned we will double-check that all files have been removed and wipe down the device.
