eBooks: EBSCO Download Laptops/Desktops

HOW TO PREPARE

The information on this page is specific to Laptops and Desktops.

  • You need a personal EBSCO account
  • You need an Adobe Digital ID and the Adobe Digital Editions app

LAPTOPS

You will need a personal EBSCO account in order to download (borrow) books.
At JIBC Library, go to eBook Academic Collection 

  • At top right of page, click SIGN IN
       

     
  • ​Sign in (if you already have an account),  OR

   

  • Click on Create one now:
    • ​You will be required to provide the following information.
      • Name, first and last
      • Email address
      • Create password
      • Provide consent

You only need to do this step if you are reading an eBook on a laptop or desktop computer.

  • If you are using a mobile device, skip this step.

1. If you do not already have an Adobe ID:

  • Create your Adobe ID when prompted within Adobe Digital Editions, or
  • Go directly to the Adobe.com.ca, select Sign In in the top-right corner
    • Follow the instructions for creating an Adobe ID
    • NOTE: 
      • Your Adobe ID is your email address

2. Install Adobe Digital Editions on your laptop or desktop computer.

3. Authorize Adobe Digital Editions on your laptop  or desktop computer.

You are ready to download (borrow) an eBook, having completed Step 1 and Step 2.

Search for an eBook

Locate the eBook, click on title to access the complete citation (details).

Read the book as PDF or EPUB (recommended for mobile devices)

  • Once you click on PDF Full Text or EPUB you will see the following on the left-side of your screen.
    • Details about the publishers permissions, including the amount you can printcopy and download
    • Information as to the number of copies available for borrowing
    • down arrow, indicating that you can download separate chapters

Full Download

  • If you wish to borrow and download the complete books, click on Full Download, top right-side of screen

  • You will be presented with the following screen:
    • Choose loan period, between 1-7 days
    • Choose download format PDF or EPUB (recommended for mobile devices)
    • Check/confirm that you have Adobe Digital Editions available
    • Click Full Download

  • Make sure you get the message Success!
  • Click Close

  • You also have the ability to Download again
    • You will use this if you want to download the same book on a different device

You will see that the eBook has downloaded as indicated on the bottom left of your computer monitor.

  • Right click and choose Open
  • The eBook will open in Adobe Digital Editions
  • If you do not see the file, go to File Explorer > Downloads and locate the file
  • Right click on the file and click on open
  • Once 7 days have elapsed the book will be removed from your library and checked in

To return the book or remove it from your library, see Returning eBook tab

  • If an eBook as is currently in use, you will be prompted to place a HOLD on the book
  • Click Place Hold
  • The eBook is place in the Holds area of your Folder
  • When the books is available an email will be sent to the email address associated with your account
    • The eBook will appear in you Checkouts area of your folder
    • Download the book to your device

Within Adobe Digital Editions

If you have finished with the eBook prior to the due date, you can do the following:

  • Return your eBook from within the Adobe Digital Editions app
  • Go to your Library
  • Hover over the book you wish to return and click Return Borrowed Item
  • The book will remain in your library until you choose Delete Item

 

If 7-days have passed and the book has expired, you will NOT be able access the publication,

  • You will see the following message:

  • Click Remove from library
