Creative Commons (CC)

Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that helps overcome legal obstacles to the sharing of knowledge and creativity to address the world’s pressing challenges.

One major aspect of Creative Commons is providing Creative Commons licenses and public domain tools that give every person and organization in the world a free, simple, and standardized way to grant copyright permissions for creative and academic works; ensure proper attribution; and allow others to copy, distribute, and make use of those works (Creative Commons).

CC Licenses Terms

Creators or copyright holders who wish to apply a Creative Commons license to their work can choose to allow their work to be copied and reused with any one or more restrictions, or certain combinations of restrictions. The four restrictions are:

CC License Terms
Condition Image Description
Attribution CC-BY.png You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.
Non Commercial CC-NC.png You may not use the material for commercial purposes.
Share Alike CC-SA.png If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original.
No Derivatives CC-ND.png If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you may not distribute the modified material.
