What is Ares?

Ares Course Reserves

Ares (Automated Reserves System) Course Reserves is a one-stop online resource for all electronic and physical course items.

Ares is a tool that:

  • Provides students access to course materials all in one place
  • Allows instructors to organize material easily by topic or module.

The system is available for all courses at JIBC, even if the course is not conducted in Blackboard.

Advantages to using ARES:
  • All course materials accessible in one location
  • Upload electronic reserve requests for articles, book chapters, audio, video and other materials you have access to
  • Request access to materials you are unable to easily locate, either through Interlibrary Loan or the Library acquiring a copy
  • Submit physical reserve requests (books, personal book copies, DVDs, etc.) for your course(s) through Blackboard
  • Clone (copy) reserve items from past courses without having to resubmit individual requests
  • JIBC Library troubleshoots broken links and PDFs not found
  • JIBC Library ensures copyright compliance for all posted items

Getting Started

Using Ares is easy:

  1. Log in to Blackboard.
  2. Click on your class.
  3. Add a tool link to your course content menu (select  "Ares Course Reserves"). You can rename this to a more appropriate name for your students such as Course Readings.
  4. Open the Ares Tool Link. If an Ares instance of your course has already been created, you will automatically be taken there. If Ares has not been set up yet, you can create an Ares instance and/or clone materials from a previous course. Please see the 'Cloning Items in Ares' page
  5. Start adding items to your class. Give the Library a few business days to verify copyright compliance.
